HOW DOES THE FLOOR HEATING SYSTEM WORK?

Electric underfloor heating is easy to install and is available in a range of standard room sizes and wattages. The systems are simply inserted between floor finishes and only require an electrician for the final thermostat connection and overall system check. ELECTRIC HEATING SYSTEM?

Electric systems use lower temperatures than other conventional methods however heat is used more efficiently reaching desired temperature quickly. All heat generated from the system is used radiating upward through the room where it is needed. An Electric system installed on an insulated floor reaches operating temperature in just 10 minutes, much faster than the usual 4 hours required by traditional water based underfloor systems.

Buying underfloor heating and sizing advice

The most important part about underfloor heating is that you never order too much, you cannot simply cut the end of the mat or cable off. Ordering the correct size is imperative. Calculate the square meters of the room allowing for a 10cm border and for any fixed furniture. The heating only needs to go in areas free of permanent furniture (baths etc). The sizes available are shown on the product pages of this website. If your area is bigger than the products, you can combine different sizes. In the examples below you must take 10cm off each for the border of the room.

Work out the total floor area.

If the overall room is rectangle in shape, say 4m by 3m – all you need to do is multiply both numbers – which gives you 12 sqm

Work out how much of the floor space is taken up by fixed objects, i.e., in your kitchen.

For example, assume you have kitchen floor units 1m in depth x 4m long; and 1m in depth and 2m long. You need to calculate these areas i.e, 1m x 4m = 4sqm and 1m x 2m = 2 sqm = Total area of 6.0 sqm. ie 4sqm + 2sqm

From Step 1 and Step 2 you now know the amount of fixed space:

Step 1: 12 sqm Step 2 = 6 sqm

Now calculate the amount of free floor space for your ezewarm cable or mat:

Floor space = 12 sqm – 6 sqm = 6 sqm. Therefore, 6sqm is what you require from your chosen ezewarm system.
